All Saints Church, Stapleford

Partly hidden from view across a field, this beautiful church is well worth the stroll. The church is located very close to the River Witham.

As you approach the church you are faced with a tower dating back to the 11th century. In the 1086 Domesday Book, Stapleford is listed as having 38 households and a church. The church has a collection of mediaeval masonry as you can see below.

Behind the tower is the more modern part of the church which is only some 246 years old, being rebuilt in 1770. Further restoration happened at the start of the 20th century.

In the churchyard is a Grade II listed and scheduled churchyard cross which dates from the 14th century, and is believed to stand in its original position.

Parish registers can be dated back to 1695 and a Bishop’s transcript older still at 1562.
