Gosh don’t we moan about winter but now we can see Spring peeping around the corner to check when it will be safe to appear maybe it’s time to take another look at winter. It is often the cause for complaint for its chilly temperatures and shorter days, and this year for its floods, but there’s a unique charm to this season that we sometimes overlook. As the world slows down and wraps itself in a blanket of snow, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the blessings that winter brings. Although we haven’t had much snow this year we can use our imaginations. My niece and her family went to Lapland this year in January and the sight of snow-covered landscapes and the fun they were having in the snow was truly awe-inspiring. It’s a reminder of the intricate beauty of God’s creation. Winter also brings us closer together. The cold weather encourages us to seek warmth, not just in our homes but in our relationships. Whether it’s a cozy evening by the fireplace or a community event, these moments of connection are a blessing in themselves. Spiritually, winter offers a time for reflection and growth. The stillness of the season provides a backdrop for prayer and meditation, allowing us to deepen our faith and find peace in the quiet moments. It’s a time to slow down, to listen, and to reconnect with our spiritual selves. And let’s not forget the acts of kindness that winter inspires. From donating warm clothing to volunteering at shelters, the season brings out the best in us. These acts of charity and compassion are a testament to the warmth of the human spirit, even in the coldest months. So, as we bundle up and brace ourselves for the last of the winter chill, let’s remember to count our blessings. Winter may be cold, and we have had some very cold spells, but it’s also a season filled with grace, beauty, and opportunities for growth.

This month’s book club choice is Hamnet by Maggie O Farrell. It doesn’t particularly reflect anything I have written but it is a wonderful book.

God Bless
